In 2021, China was the leader in global energy consumption with 157 exajoules. The United States, India, and Russia followed in second, third, and fourth places, respectively. Turkmenistan saw a 6.2% year-on-year increase and Venezuela a 7.7% decrease since 1970. Global energy supply is projected to reach 14,890 million tonnes of oil equivalent by 2026, a 0.7% increase year-on-year from 2021's 14,080 million tonnes. Since 1976, supply has risen 0.6% annually. China was the leader in energy supply in 2021 with 3,530 million tonnes of oil equivalent. The United States, India, and Russia followed in second, third, and fourth places, respectively. North Korea saw a 10.5% year-on-year increase and Venezuela a 12.8% decrease since 1976.
