  • The US advertising industry witnessed a 1% increase in advertising expenditures in the second quarter of 2012 to exceed $34 billion, reports strategic advertising and marketing information provider Kantar Media. In the first half, spending rose 2% to exceed $67 billion. TV spending continued to dominate the advertising market, growing 4.5% in the second quarter of 2012. Cable TV expenditures climbed more than 4%, with sports programming and other large audience networks fuelling growth.

 

  • The world’s top-10 advertisers spent almost $4 billion in the second quarter of 2012, representing a near 6% drop compared with the same quarter in 2011. Procter & Gamble dominates the market with almost $600 million in measured spending, representing a 13% year-on-year decline. Internet penetration will drive growth in the online advertising market segment, while increasing use of smartphones will push mobile advertising market expansion. Industry experts predict Facebook will outpace Twitter for advertising in 2013 due to its roll out of mobile ads.
