Malagasy demand for milk powder imports is on the rise. In 2021, the country imported 4.5 million kilograms of milk powder, up 16.7% from 1995. It placed 52nd in the global ranking for milk powder imports, behind Ivory Coast, which imported 4.5 million kilograms. The Philippines, Indonesia, and Algeria followed, with imports of 3.4 million, 2.7 million, and 1.5 million kilograms respectively. By 2026, Malagasy milk powder imports are forecast to reach 5.5 million kilograms, a 3.3% year-on-year increase.
