Consumption of pesticides in Japan is expected to drop by 6.1% year-on-year to around 22,000 metric tons by 2026. Since 1995, the Japanese market has decreased by 8.9% year-on-year. In 2021, Japan was ranked 17th in the world, behind Ecuador's 32,100 metric tons. The United States, Brazil and Argentina came in at second, third and fourth place respectively. Japanese imports of pesticides are forecast to fall by 0.2% year-on-year to 256,310 metric tons by 2026. Since 1995, Japanese demand has increased by 0% year-on-year. In 2021, Japan was ranked 6th in the world, behind Spain's 259,780 metric tons. Thailand, Germany and Taiwan ranked second, third and fourth respectively. Japanese exports of pesticides totalled 147 metric tons in 2018 and were down 34.2% on the year before. This was a 50.4% decrease on the 1995 figure. In 2018, Japan was ranked 15th in the world, behind Sweden's 147 metric tons. Germany, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom took second, third and fourth place respectively.
