Germans are set to increase their use of credit cards in the next five years, with transaction values projected to grow 2.8% year on year on average until 2026. By this time, transaction values are expected to reach nearly $12 billion, up from $10.3 billion in 2021. Since 2017, German demand for credit cards has grown 9% year on year. In 2021, Germany ranked 18th globally, with Indonesia leading the way at $10.3 billion. South Korea, Japan and Canada took second, third and fourth place respectively. The number of credit cards in Germany is expected to rise 2% year on year on average until 2026, reaching 7,000 thousand units by that time. This is up from 6,300 thousand units in 2021. Since 2017, the German supply of credit cards has steadily grown by 4.8% each year. In 2021, Germany placed 18th globally, just below Switzerland with 6,300 thousand units. China, Japan and Brazil respectively took second, third and fourth place.
