Costa Rica is set to see an increase in pet food imports over the next five years. Demand is expected to reach around 37 million kilograms by 2026, growing at an average of 2.8% year on year since 1999. In 2021, Costa Rica was ranked 46th in pet food imports. El Salvador led the way with 31 million kilograms, while the UK, France, and Italy were ranked 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively. Costa Rica’s pet food exports are also predicted to grow slightly over the next five years, reaching a total of around 32 million kilograms by 2026. Since 1999, the supply has decreased by an average of 2.3% year on year. In 2021, Mexico overtook Costa Rica at 29th in the ranking with 30 million kilograms, while France, the US, and the Netherlands were ranked 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively.
