Bulgaria's geothermal energy consumption is projected to rise 1.3% annually over the next five years, reaching 1,660 terajoules in 2026. This marks a significant increase from the 1,530 terajoules consumed in 2021, which was the highest figure since 2010. Bulgaria overtook its neighbors in 2021, placing first in the rankings, followed by numbers 2, 3 and 4, respectively. The country's geothermal energy generation is also expected to grow 1.4% on average each year, reaching 469.54 gigawatthours in 2026. This is a sizeable increase from the 432.57 gigawatthours produced in 2021, which was the highest since 2010. Bulgaria again came in at number one in the rankings, with its neighbors following in positions two, three and four.
