Among the Western European markets France is the third biggest country, providing about 15% of WE demand, and the third importer, absorbing 15% of WE imports. France is very open market, with imported home furniture satisfying 56% of domestic demand (around 6 percentage points greater than Western Europe average). China accounts for about one fifth of French import of furniture, followed by Italy, Germany and Belgium. Overall during the last 5 years the share of furniture distributed by specialized retailers has remained basically stable. However, within this category a massive change occurred, in that the organized distribution have increased its share to the detriment of the small indipendent retailers.
