Research Report On Entry Into China's Fruit Market
Since 1993, China has become the biggest producer of fruits in the world. According to the statistical data of National Bureau of Statistics, it shows that the area of China’s orchards was 10,471 thousand hectares in 2007 and the total output of fruits (including fruit melons) was 181,363 thousand tons. Among that, the output of apples, oranges, pears and bananas accounted respectively for 15.25%, 11.35%, 7.11% and 4.30% of the total output of the fruits.
After China’s fruit market is open, the planting area of fruits is increasingly enlarged and the output is increased year by year. For a part of products, the supply is in excess of the demand. Besides, under the condition that the technology of processing, warehouse, logistics is increasingly improved, people's consumer demands are also constantly changing. The frequency for purchasing fruits is converted into scattered buying from centralized buying at one time. The purchase and sale time is gradually changed into the four seasons from the harvest season of the fruits. The purchase variety is also gradually enlarged from local fruits to the fruits throughout the country. Moreover, the consumption ration of fruit products is also gradually increased.
The import and export trade of fruit goods continues to grow and the amount of trade surplus is also enlarging year by year. January-September of 2008, the import and export amounts of China’s fruit goods were respectively 3.964 billion USD and 0.178 billion USD, the trade surplus amounts reached 3.786 billion USD, increasing by 27.56% over the same period of previous year. In 2007, the amounts of China’s import and export of fruit goods were respectively 1,123 million dollars and 4,717 million dollars, increasing by 26.82% and 43.41% over the same period of previous year. The amount of the trade surplus of fruit products was 3.594 billion dollars, increasing by 49.52% over the same period of previous year, which is 2.8 times more than that of 2003 (1,285 million dollars).
The yearly increase of the total output of the fruits and constant change of consumer demands stimulate the further development of China's fruit processing industry. According to the date of National Bureau of Statistics, it shows that all of China’s enterprises above designated size of fruit-processing industry have realized respectively RMB 182.657 billion Yuan, 173.247 billion Yuan and 10.101 billion Yuan of total industrial output value, sales income and contribution margin, increasing by 33.10%, 33.57% and 42.56% over the same period of previous year.
In respect of the source of import, China's imported fruit goods in 2007 were mainly from countries such as Thailand, America, Vietnam and Philippines. Among that, the imports from Thailand were 254 million dollars, accounting for 22.66% of the total amount of China’s imports; the imports from America were 152 million dollars, accounting for 13.54% of the total amount of China’s imports; and the imports from Vietnam and Philippines were respectively 113 million and 113 million dollars, accounting for 10.03% and 10.02% of the total amount of China’s imports.
