BMI View: Chile will remain a global hot-spot for non-hydro renewables investment over the comingyears, due to the country's supportive regulations, high electricity prices, favourable natural conditions andstable business environment. Investor interest in the market remains strong, boosted by Chile's abundanceof contract opportunities for power developers.

Latest Updates And Structural Trends

- In January 2016, Spain-based renewables company Grenergy Renovables signed a memorandum ofunderstanding (MoU) with Chinese photovoltaic (PV) company Trina Solar to build 60MW of solarparks in Chile. Under the MoU, the partners will set up a 50:50 joint venture to begin with two projectsduring Q116.

- Italian renewables operator Enel Green Power started building a 112MW wind plant in Sierra Gorda. TheUSD215mn project is expected to generate more than 295GWh a year. The facility is scheduled to becompleted and commissioned by the end of 2016.

- In early 2016, the Chilean president Michelle Bachelet signed under the country's new energy strategy'Energy 2050', which sets a target of 70% electricity generation from renewables by 2050.
