Smart key systems have been available on passenger cars for over 15 years. Whilst these systems affect the existing security systems of passenger cars their development was motivated by convenience. These benefits could also be applied to alternative vehicle types, which also need technology for access and ignition control.

SBD has therefore carried out analysis for seven alternative vehicle markets that could potentially adopt elements of smart key technology. With only minimum modifications to the technology used on passenger cars, smart key systems could easily be adapted to meet the needs of these vehicles, resulting in increased sales of smart key technology worldwide.
