Exchange Growth due to Environmental and Social Sentiment

This research service analyzes trends occurring in the water and wastewater treatment chemicals market in Mexico. Legislation is encouraging industries to re-utilize water, which involves the process of treating it with chemicals. However, the lack of enforcement means market penetration is not 100.0 percent. The market is segmented into flocculants and coagulants, disinfectants and biocides, and anti-scaling and corrosion control chemicals. Company profiles of the major market participants and analysis of the competitive market dynamics are included. Also, forecasts for revenue and volumes produced are provided to 2017. The research service concludes with strategic recommendations and predictions.

Executive Summary

• The industrial water and wastewater treatment chemical market will grow at a CAGR of X percent from 2012 to 2017. The size of the market, dimensioned in $X million in the base year, is expected to reach $X million at the end of forecast period.
• Despite the fact that the market is in a mature stage, opportunities for innovation still exist in the long term, especially in the coagulant and flocculant as well as in the disinfectant and biocide segments.
• The coagulant and flocculant segment represents Xpercent of the total market in revenues; meanwhile, disinfectants and biocides represent X percent, and the scaling and corrosion control chemical segment represents X percent. These are the biggest segments.
• On the other hand, the smallest segments include reverse osmosis products, which represents X percent of the total market, ion exchange resins, accounting forX percent of the market, and anti-foam chemicals, with X percent of the market. The latter three will not take part in the scope of this study due to their small participation.
• In order to meet demand, the supply side not only manufactures locally but also imports.

CEO’s Perspective

1. The total market may keep growing with a CAGR of X percent from 2012 to 2017, reaching $X M.
2. The total market is dominated by commodity chemicals, but a trend of substitution to specialties exists.

4. The market’s structure is likely to change due to low barriers to entrance and price competition.
5. Commoditization will lower margins continually in this market.

Market Overview

• Almost all of the industries in the world use water as an integral part of their processes. Water has numerous uses in a process operation, both in internal and external applications. When used in these applications, the water’s characteristics change due to the addition of chemicals in the internal process as well as temperature and pressure changes in the external circuit.
• In addition, industries utilize water treatment chemicals for effluent treatment, process treatment, and/or cooling/boiler water treatment purposes. However, while a few of the industries choose to outsource their water treatment operations completely, some of them prefer to buy the chemicals and to operate their facilities independently.
• In general, the industries have water treatment plants for treating their processes and wastewater for either reuse or discharge. The treatment processes are generally completed in steps depending on the concentration of the water to be treated.
• Different treatment processes and chemicals for performing the various water treatment processes are used.
• Impurities in the water that are visible and large enough to be removed are generally removed via the filtration method. However, the problem for the industries stems from the addition of chemicals within the processes that require either removal or reduction in quantities. The complex process systems have a tendency to produce by-products that are likely to bioaccumulate and cause harmful changes in the environment. This has resulted in the use of chemicals and advanced technologies for ensuring that these harmful products are either reduced or removed from the water discharged into the environment.
• Mexico does count, with a reasonably well-developed infrastructure for industrial water and wastewater treatment, but it still has a long way to go. Industrial companies that utilize large volumes of water in their processes actively treat water with coagulants, corrosion inhibitors, and anti-scaling chemicals. Many companies have decided to own their own plants for water treatment so that water can be re-utilized during their processes.
• Industrial end-users in Mexico include many sectors, namely: Oil and gas, mining, petrochemical, pulp and paper, food and beverage, and chemical sectors. However, the agricultural sector also creates a great demand for water usage.

Key Questions This Study Will Answer
