The “World Fibre & Brazil – Trends in Demand and Supply” is the Seventh annual compendium in a se-ries from YarnsandFibers covering the trends in global demand and supply of textile fibre/filament in-dustry. In this Report we have captured the trends seen in 2011 in textile fibre/filament industry in-cluding natural fibres, particularly cotton. The analysis assesses the positions of fibres/filaments in-dustry as events unfolded.
The Report’s 20 pages are richly annotated with authoritative and unbiased objective description, and hard-to-find statistical facts. The report also provides unequivocal views on future potential while throwing light on the prevailing climate in key regional markets and projections upto 2017 of availabil-ity and demand for all fibres.
The Report is divided into two sections: Fibre-wise View and Region/Country wise View.
Brazil ranked fifth largest producer of fibre/filament in 2011, with production at 2.36 million tons, including cotton. The major component was cotton while manmade fibre/filament production totaled 341,000 tons during the year. Brazil produces all type of fibre/filament. Globally, it was the fifth largest producer of cotton, seventh in viscose staple fibre and ninth in viscose filament. It is also the eighth largest consumers of textile fibre and also the fifth largest exporters. In consumption, Brazil ranks fifth in cotton consumption and ninth in polyester filament yarn. It was the second major importer of polyester filament in 2011.
Brazil’s production of fibre/filament has been consistent since the 1990s, largely led by cotton. During the 1990s with cotton production growing at 2.7% per annum and manmade fibre/filament at a sub-stantial rate of 17.5% a year. However, the decade of 2000 saw the growth in manmade shrink to -2.4% per annum between 2000 and 2011 while cotton output expanded 9.6% a year.
