STUDY OBJECTIVES

BCC’s goal in conducting this study is to provide an overview of the current and future characteristics of the global markets and technologies for molecular, nanoscale and atomic imaging. The key objective is to present the future direction and comprehensive analysis for the molecular, nanoscale and atomic imaging technologies markets, and their positions in the overall global imaging market.

This report explores present and future strategies within the global markets and technologies for molecular, nanoscale and atomic imaging, including the electron and ion microscope market, the imaging probes market, the scanning probe market and the optical and thermal imaging market. The improvisation of the market, the setbacks and the needs of the market are discussed in this report. The comparisons, usage and the advantages and disadvantages of different types of technologies related to molecular, nanoscale and atomic imaging are also portrayed in this report.

A detailed analysis based on the global markets and technologies of molecular, nanoscale and atomic imaging’s industry structure has also been conducted. Revenues are broken down by type, application and region. Sales figures are estimated for the five-year period from 2012 through 2017.

Applications for the different technologies associated with molecular, nanoscale and atomic imaging are also discussed separately in the report, with emphasis of the usage of the molecular, nanoscale and atomic imaging in various commercial and industrial fields. The report also covers significant patents and their allotments in each category.

REASONS FOR DOING THIS STUDY

Extensive research in the fields of molecular, nanoscale and atomic imaging has allowed for an overall growth in the technological advancements in the markets. This has led to the availability and accessibility of high-resolution imaging modalities.

R&D spending, along with increasing competition, patent expiries and new technologies are directing this in a new direction. The overall revenue for the market has seen a steady increase from 2010 to 2012 mainly due to new advancements, new product launches and to meet the demands of new end-user industries. This study looks at almost all of the systems affected by these factors.

Acquisition strategies and collaborations by companies are also covered in this report. This study also discusses the strengths and weaknesses of each type/ technology in light of new technologies, growing competition and changing customer needs.

CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE STUDY AND INTENDED AUDIENCE

This study contributes to the areas of market growth in the overall area of imaging modalities, including molecular, nanoscale and atomic imaging markets. It also contributes to specific areas of market growth within the imaging market including the electron and ion microscope market, the imaging probes market, the scanning probe market and the optical and thermal imaging market. Pharmaceutical biotechnical companies, research institutes and physicians will find this study to be of interest.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The scope of this study encompasses the global markets and technologies of the molecular, nanoscale and atomic imaging markets in pharmaceutical and biotechnology markets. BCC analyzes each market and its applications, regulatory environment, technology involved, market projections and market share. Technological issues include the latest trends and developments. The emerging market for molecular, nanoscale and atomic imaging includes countries such as India, China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

METHODOLOGY

BCC conducted a comprehensive literature search, which included technical newsletters and journals, and many other sources. Data were collected through interviews and correspondence with manufacturers and technical experts of molecular, nanoscale and atomic imaging. Projections were based on estimates such as the current number of end users, potential end users, mergers and acquisitions, and market trends.

INFORMATION SOURCES

Many companies within the industry were surveyed to obtain data for this study. Included were manufacturers and end users of molecular, nanoscale and atomic imaging. Data were gathered from various industry sources. BCC spoke with officials within the industry and consulted newsletters, company literature, product literature and a host of technical articles, journals, indexes and abstracts. Exhaustive investigations of databases by key terminology were completed. In addition, data were compiled from current financial, trade and government sources.
