The market has continued to contract following poor consumer confidence in the wake of the recession, as well as increased competition from online content streaming services and the migration of consumers onto multifunctional mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablet computers. Intense price competition between retailers has also served to drive down the price of brown goods, such as televisions, Blu-ray players and audio equipment, thus eroding market value.
