Survey results reveal that respondents from defense supplier companies expect defense R&D budgets to decrease by -4% over the next five years as compared to 2012, with 53% of respondents anticipating a decline.

According to the survey results, respondents identify defense segments such as ‘cyber warfare’, ‘military aircraft’, ‘soldier modernization’, ‘space and satellite systems’ and ‘C4ISR’ will record maximum investment in the in the coming five years.

Survey results reveal that 45%, 41%, and 38% of respondents identify ‘higher customization of service packages from suppliers’, ‘industry consolidation’, and ‘performance based contracts’ as the most significant emerging trends in Aftermarket Service Support and MRO respectively.

Key Highlights

Survey results demonstrate that 43% of respondents highlighted the ‘air force’ as the military force that will record the highest spending in the next five years followed by navy as identified by 25% of respondents.

Overall, executives from the global defense suppliers industry anticipate increased levels of consolidation over the next two years, with 52% of respondents anticipating either a significant increase or a slight increase in M&A activity.

According to the survey results, 69% of respondents each identified ‘UAVs’, and ‘cyber warfare’ as the most important defense segments that will show the most technological advancement over the next decade.

Overall, respondents from the global defense suppliers industry identified Japan to offer the highest growth potential among developed countries during 2013–2017.

According to survey results, 77% of respondents project that the number of collaborative projects in the global defense industry will increase over the next two years.
