BMI View: Lev depreciation against the US dollar reduced the affordability of consumer electronicsdevices for local consumers in 2015 and resulted in a contraction of spending overall in global currencyterms, but the handset segment did maintain growth as a result of momentum from the smartphone boom.Over the medium term we expect a stronger growth trend to return based on rising income, but this positiveis tempered slightly by a declining population that will be a drag on demand growth. Nonetheless, lowpenetration across most device categories will allow vendors to tap into the first-time buyer and upgrade/replacement markets as incomes rise and confidence returns among households, supporting a CAGR of4.2% over 2016-2020.
