This report consists of businesses mainly engaged in hiring and sales of pre-recorded video DVDs and cassettes and games for personal use only.Industry operators generally rent and sell DVDs, as well as some games and general merchandise, including some food and drinks. Some also sell music CDs and mobile phone recharge services. This report only relates to the specialist video rental and sales stores industry. These can be identified in that they generate the overwhelming majority of their revenue (80% to 90%of the total) from video and game rental and sales only. However, the broader video rental and sales activity is now rapidly segmenting into specialist franchised rental stores and niche market video stores. The broader video rental and sales activity also operates through a number of diversified retailers - including a combination of supermarkets, petrol stations, cafes, department stores, music stores, convenience stores etc. that rent and sell DVDs, but only as a part of a broader offering of goods and services. These stores are not classified as part of this industry and are considered competitors to the major and specialist video rental operators.
