  • Frost & Sullivan
Report ID: 1514911

Summary

Table of Contents

Executive Summary

•Medical imaging equipment is used by healthcare professionals in every region of the world to aid in diagnosing, monitoring, and treating various medical conditions or injuries.
•In 2012, total revenue* from shipments of medical imaging equipment to customers in all regions of the world was $XX million. Frost & Sullivan expects global medical imaging equipment market revenue to grow at a CAGR of XX percent from 2012 to 2017, reaching $ XX million in 2017.
•Regions in which the largest proportions of global medical imaging equipment market revenue were generated in 2012 were North America, Europe, and Japan. However, Frost & Sullivan projects the market will grow fastest from 2012 to 2017 in India, Latin America, Russia, and China.
•In 2012, the largest proportions of global medical imaging equipment market revenue were generated by shipments of ultrasound and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging equipment. The modality market sectors that Frost & Sullivan expects to grow fastest from 2012 to 2017 are computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, and general X-ray.
•Competitors contributing the largest proportions of global medical imaging equipment market revenue in 2012 were Siemens Healthcare, GE Healthcare, and Philips Healthcare. Together, these competitors generated XX percent of the total market revenue.

Issues of Strategic Importance

1 - The global market revenue contributed by developed markets in North America, Europe, and Japan is expected to decline; meanwhile, the proportion of global revenue generated by emerging markets including Latin America Russia, India, and China will grow.
2 - From 2012 to 2017, Frost & Sullivan research suggests the global medical imaging equipment market revenue growth will be driven largely by growing CT equipment sales in the emerging market (EM) regions and by growing ultrasound equipment sales globally.
3 - Given the current market environment, reducing internal costs and using internal resources more efficiently are critical to maintaining viability in the market; in fact, these practices are even more important than top line revenue growth.

Scope of Market Evaluated

Products
•The estimates and forecast in this study consider commercial shipments of new medical imaging equipment that is approved for human clinical use.
•Revenue generated through equipment servicing and sales of contrast agents, software, or other ancillary sources is not considered in this study’s estimates and forecast.
•Pre-owned equipment or equipment that is intended only for non-clinical use is not accounted for in this study’s estimates and forecast.
•The following medical imaging technologies (i.e., modalities) were considered:
General X-ray: static analog and digital X-ray imaging systems (i.e., film-screen or digital radiography (DR) suites or mobiles) with a maximum generator power output of at least XX kW, computed radiography (CR) digitizers, and DR detector retrofits
Mammographic X-ray: analog and digital X-ray equipment that is approved and used specifically for breast cancer screening or diagnosis (i.e., film-screen or DR suites and CR digitizers), excluding breast biopsy tables and devices
Interventional X-ray: fixed or mobile dynamic X-ray imaging equipment used to guide minimally-invasive radiology or cardiology procedures and surgical C-arms
Computed Tomography (CT): whole-body CT scanning systems, excluding hybrid molecular imaging technologies that employ CT i.e., single-photon emission computed tomography/CT (SPECT/CT) and positron emission tomography/CT (PET/CT)
Ultrasound: cart-based or hand-carried ultrasound systems for general-purpose or dedicated (e.g., breast imaging) use, excluding intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)
Magnetic Resonance (MR): whole-body MR scanning systems with magnetic field strength of 3 Tesla or less, excluding hybrid molecular imaging technologies that employ MR (i.e., PET/MR)
Molecular: Nuclear medicine (i.e., planar gamma scintigraphy, SPECT, or SPECT/CT) and PET (stand-alone PET, PET/CT, or PET/MR) camera or scanning systems
Geographic Regions
The estimates and forecast in this study consider revenue generated by medical imaging equipment shipments to customers in the following regions:
•North America: United States and Canada
•Latin America (LATAM): Mexico, Central America and South America
•Western Europe: United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, and Benelux
•Central and Eastern Europe (CEE): Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria
•The Middle East and Africa (ME&A): Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, and Africa
•Russia
•Asia and Oceania: Japan, India, China, Australia, and Rest of Asia
oRest of Asia includes South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Vietnam
Time Period
The estimates and forecast in this study pertain to the following time periods:
•Study Period: 2012'2017
•Base Year: 2012
•Forecast Period: 2013'2017
•CAGR Period: 2012'2017
