BMI View: Egypt's growth in 2016 will remain sub-optimal, held back by the worsening slump in tourism,elevated unemployment levels and rising headline inflation. The country's ongoing subsidy reform in theenergy sector and gradual currency devaluation will be will also weigh heavily on consumer spending forthe remainder of the year. - Headline inflation in Egypt has risen significantly over the past few months and we forecast it reaching17.0% by year end. As a result, we expect the authorities to raise interest rates by another 100 basispoints by the end of 2016 in a bid to control it and support the currency.

- Food and non-alcoholic drinks spending continues to dominate the household budgets, accounting for aforecast 37.2% of the total expenditure in 2016. While we expect this figure to decline gradually over thecoming years, food and non-alcoholic drinks expenditure will continue to dominate household spending.
