BMI View:
Bahrain's mobile and wireline telecoms sectors continue to display healthy levels of competitionand measurable benefits for telecoms customers. Bahrain still generates the second most attractive returnsfor operators in the Middle East and North Africa region. The ability to offer fixed and mobile servicesallows operators to offer bundled services. However, the growth of the broadband market will be primarilydriven by dedicated mobile broadband, supported by investments in 3G/4G infrastructure.

Latest Industry Trends & Developments

- The mobile subscriber additions are unusually strong for a saturated market; the discounting of inactiveSIMs is a downside risk to our growth forecasts. 3G/4G upgrades will underpin expansion over the nextfive years and beyond, accounting for 57.1% of the market by 2020.

- Bahrain had 540,000 dedicated broadband internet connections at the end of 2015; this will rise to720,000 subscriptions in 2020, of which a significant number will be fibre-based.
