The OEM-Supplier Relations report provides a comprehensive overview of the quality of relations between carmakers and their suppliers, as assessed through the SuRe (Supplier Relationship) index which has recently been updated for 2013.

In this global report IHS SupplierBusiness analyses the global trends in OEM-supplier relations, with a focus on those aspects of the relationships which have a major impact on suppliers’ operational and financial performance (e.g. Profit Opportunity for suppliers & OEM Organization rating). The 35 OEMs covered in this study are under five categories (Profit potential, Organisation, Trust, Pursuit of Excellence and Outlook), which are the main metrics defining the quality of relations between OEMs and suppliers according to the study. The study features analysis of the results for each category, including the definition of benchmarks and outliers at the OEM level in each category, therefore making the report a valuable indicator of the state of relations between OEMs and suppliers and a must for all stakeholders in the automotive industry.

Background to this research

The study leverages the extensive the well-established survey programme which IHS SupplierBusiness started in 2005 and which has seen the participation of over a thousand senior to middle managers working at automotive suppliers and in direct dealings with the OEMs. Suppliers are called upon to give their ratings on 29 questions, which are the SuRe index’ KPIs. The 29 KPIs are organized in five categories Profit potential, Organisation, Trust, Pursuit of Excellence and Outlook. 280 suppliers from around the world have taken part in this year’s study, up from 230 last year.
