>BMI View:
Croatia's tourism market is recording substantial growth. With visitors to the region deterred from other destinations (such as Turkey) due to security concerns, Croatia has seen a steady increase in international arrivals and in turn to tourism-related spending. Though neighbouring states in Europe still dominate the inbound market, the number of arrivals to Croatia from markets further afield, particularly in the Asia Pacific region, are rising rapidly and this is stimulating further investment in the country's hotel segment - particularly the somewhat neglected luxury hotel market. As well as growing private investment, we also note the Croatian government is highly supportive of the tourism industry and is investing widely in tourism-related infrastructure, including in new domestic and international transport connections.

Key Updates And Forecasts

- Croatia's international connectivity continues to improve and new flight routes continue to be added. Regional budget airlines Jet2 and RyanAir have announced new flights to Croatia for 2017 while Air Transat has announced it will extend and expand its summer flights between Toronto and Zagreb next year.

- The luxury hotel segment in Croatia is attracting major investment. Hotel group Hyatt has announced plans for a Hyatt Regency brand hotel in Zadar, due to open in 2019, while in Dubrovnik there are plans for a new five-star Hotel Belvedere from Russian developer Viktor Velkseberg.

- At present we are forecasting growth in arrivals of 6.1% in 2016 to a total of 13.5mn. We note, however, that the country has seen strong growth in travel over January to September and there is potential for a record number of winter visitors (for example to Christmas markets in Zagreb and Dubrovnik) which would lessen the impact of seasonal fluctuations and result in an upwards revision to our forecasts.
