BMI View:

Despite improvements in our forecast for real GDP growth in Pakistan for fiscal year 2016/17, the country will remain the least attractive consumer market in the Asia Pacific region. The country’s large rural population and low disposable incomes restrict consumer spending, meaning that growth in the food and drink market is largely driven by essentials spending. Growth in high-value food products will be further dampened by limited investment in the formal food retailing sector.

- The country’s water shortage will drive bottled water sales, but not at the rates seen during the severe water crisis in 2015.
