BMI View: Peru's IT market slowed in 2015 and 2016 as the economy faltered, with imported products facing an affordability squeeze due to nuevo sol depreciation. This backdrop is forecast to change from 2017, with strong economic growth and appreciation envisaged, which will put the IT market onto a stronger growth trajectory. Software and services spending growth is expected to be particularly strong as modernising enterprises inside a developing economy see robust investment in efficiency enhancing solutions.
Latest Updates & Industry Developments
- Computer Hardware Sales: PEN4.1bn in 2016 to PEN4.4bn in 2020. Purchasing power gains will alleviate the economic pressures that hit demand in 2015 and 2016 but, with competition from smartphones for retail PC spending, we do not envisage a return to the growth rates of the early PC boom years.
- Software Sales: PEN1.1bn in 2016 to PEN1.5bn in 2020. Enterprise investment in core applications, and newer technologies such as data analytics, will drive robust growth in softwarespending.
- IT Services Sales: PEN2.4bn in 2016 to PEN3.3bn in 2020. Core services still have growth potential, but it is cloud computing that will see the fastest growth as supply increases and bottlenecks such as network infrastructure are removed over the medium term.
