Research Background
In 2011, basically the development of China’s feed industry still follows the previous trend of integration. Due to the increasing growth of animal farming scale, the number of large-scale animal farming industry with self-built feed production facilities also increases, causing the market space of commercial feed continue to drop.
From the external side of feed industry, the price of feed raw material on the upstream continues to stay on the high level, uplifting the cost of feed production; the animal farming households and small animal farming enterprises on the downstream continue to withdraw from the market and the integration of animal farming industry continues, lowering the bargaining power of feed enterprises. The epidemic piglet diarrhea in the beginning of 2011 caused the inadequacy of hog supply; as aquaculture was affected by drought, the growth of hog feed and aquatic feed output also slows down. In the mean time, the pressure of corn supply in China also increases, and the impact of international corn market on domestic market keeps on increasing.
From the internal side of feed industry, small and medium-sized feed enterprises continue to withdraw the market; the large-scale feed enterprises, while expanding their production capacity, continue to enter into animal farming and livestock and poultry slaughtering industry, so that they can avoid the risks, maintain the sale of products and increase profits. The government also supports the development of leading large-scale enterprises in order to promote their recombination and integration.
The Law on Feed is expected to be promulgated in 2012 and the supervision of feed quality security and industry supervision shall be stricter. With further rise of hog number, the demand of feed in China may turn positive. The government shall continue to support the feed enterprises to combine and integrate by means of merger and reconstruction as well as industrial alliance, so as to improve the concentration of the industry. The large-scale feed enterprises such as the New Hope Group and Tongwei Group shall increase their overseas investment by means of establishing factories and merger &acquisition to expand their development space and explore international market. Therefore we estimate that the integration of feed industry in 2012 shall go further and produce far-reaching impact on relevant industries.
This report, on the basis of the macro-economic condition, the status quo f feed raw material market and the status quo of livestock and poultry farming industry, conducts an in-depth analysis and review of China’s feed market in 2011 in terms of production, consumption, trade, price and the status quo of the markets of major raw materials which affect the production cost of feed, such as corn, soybean meal, fish meal, meat & bone meal as well as amino acid as feed, and also provide the readers with an estimation of the development trend of China’s feed industry in 2012.
