Paint the town: Industry revenue will grow due to increased renovation activity
Paint Stores in the US
The Paint Stores industry painted over its dismal post recessionary performance during the past five years, spurred by steadily improving demand from key downstream markets including homebuilders and contractors engaged in renovation activity. Despite the economic recovery, several factors created challenges for the majority of industry operators over the period. Raw material costs for paint manufacturers exhibited extreme levels of volatility over the period. While producers were able to pass some price increases along to wholesalers and retailers, industry operators were forced to reduce profitability in some years. Industry retailers also faced intense price competition from big-box home improvement stores. IBISWorld forecasts slow yet steady growth for the industry in the five years to 2021. The industry is expected to benefit from the continued strengthening of the economy, as demand from key downstream construction and renovation markets continues to grow.
