Introduction & Scope

STUDY GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

Photocatalysts are materials that utilize photons to activate chemical reactions.

Although the origins of photocatalysts can be traced back to the year 1791, when the new element titanium was discovered, it was only in the late 1960s that the photocatalytic properties of titanium dioxide were observed.

The first commercial products based on photocatalysts were commercialized in the early 1990s, and since then there has been growing interest in these materials leading to their use in different applications within various sectors, such as the construction and consumer products sectors.

BCC Research published its first report on photocatalysts in March 2010. Since then the market for these materials and related products has continued to expand, while new technological developments and industry changes have also taken place.

The primary goal of this report is to provide insights into photocatalytic technology, as well as to outline technological trends and to offer an updated market analysis of various photocatalyst-based products.

Specifically, the major objectives of this study are as follows:

SCOPE OF REPORT

This study provides an updated review of photocatalyst technology, including materials and production processes, and identifies current and emerging applications for this technology. BCC Research determines the current market status of photocatalyst products, defines trends, and presents growth forecasts for the next five years. The
photocatalyst market is evaluated based on the following segments: material type, application, and region. In addition, technological issues, including key events and the latest process developments, are discussed.

More specifically, the market analysis conducted by BCC Research for this report is divided into five sections.
