BMI View: Hong Kong's position as a regional data centre and cloud services hub will sustain growth rates above those observed in the majority of developed markets globally 2015-2019. Drivers of cloud investment will be demand from Hong Kong's large financial services industry, as well as opportunities for regional expansion. The cloud opportunity offsets some of the limitations of the retail market where high penetration rates will mean relatively slower growth in spending compared to emerging markets in APAC. We forecast IT spending in Hong Kong will reach almost HKD44.1bn in 2015, with growth of 6.7% forecast in local currency terms.

Headline Expenditure Projections

Computer Hardware Sales: HKD13.7bn in 2014 to HKD13.9bn in 2015, +1.3% in local currency terms. The hardware market expected to return to growth as the tablet market stabilizes after sharp fall in volumes in 2014, but growth will be more subdued than during the tablet boom years. Software Sales: HKD12.9bn in 2014 to HKD14.1bn in 2015, +9.1% in local currency terms. The enterprise software market offers continued opportunity, particularly for SaaS and cyber-security vendors.
