Growth has slowed sharply in Mongolia in recent years, largely driven by lower commodity prices. We expect full-year growth for the economy to remain modest at 0.3% before slightly picking up in 2017 at 2.0%. In terms of the current account, data for January to September 2016 show a smaller deficit of 109 million USD, allowing for improvements in the forecast. While the June 2016 election saw the Democratic party replaced by the Mongolian People's Party, substantial policy shifts will likely be limited given the persistent pressures on the budget and the balance of payments.
