Background and report description

The Australian water cooler market stood at 340,000 units installed at the end of 2012. The market is still dominated by bottled water coolers, with over 65% share, but their number has fallen in the last few years as many customers switched to point of use as a cost saving alternative.

The bottled water cooler market is dominated by Coca-Cola Amatil, followed by couple of middle-sized companies. Many traditionally bottled cooler players have included point of use units into their portfolios in order to meet their client’s requirements. Overall the point of use market in the country remains very fragmented.

The point of use segment will continue to make further inroads and to increase its market share at the expense of a declining bottled water cooler installed base. Zenith predicts that the point of use market will grow at a steady average rate of 2.6% for the time period 2013-17.
