BMI View: The Czech Republic tourist market remains small but well established The Czech capital city ofPrague is home to a multitude of attractions and has long remained popular as a short break and city breakdestination for visitors from neighbouring countries and across Western Europe Looking forward, arrivalsfrom Asian and Middle Eastern source markets will bolster the Czech tourism industry; however, over theshort term, economic weaknesses in key European source markets will dampen regional growth prospects

Key Updates And Forecasts

- In line with weakness in the eurozone and economic uncertainty in China, we revised downwards ourshort-term forecasts for inbound arrivals to the Czech Republic in our previous quarterly update Weproject an overall decline of 03% in arrivals in 2016 to 784mn We are, however, maintaining ourmedium-term growth forecasts By 2020, arrivals will recover well to reach 86mn, with the marketbenefiting from extensive government support

- Regional travel will receive a boost as Czech Airlines begins flights between Prague and the capital ofMacedonia from summer 2016

- From May 2016, Emirates Airlines will begin using an Airbus A380 on the Dubai-Prague route,expanding capacity by 44%

- The government remains keen to increase arrivals from lucrative Middle Eastern markets and inDecember 2015 opened a new visa application centre in Bahrain, providing an accessible and streamlinedvisa application process for this up-and-coming market
