BMI View: Angola's insurance market is at an early stage of development and the life sector accounts foronly around 1% of the total insurance industry. The non-life sector is more robust and accounts for around99% of the insurance market, a very large imbalance. Nevertheless, we hold the view that the life sector ispoised for very negligible growth over the course of our forecast period. The main growth and primarygains driving the insurance industry will come from the non-life segment as all major and minor non-lifelines are poised for meteoric growth due to economic expansion, rising incomes and higher spendingpowers.

Key Updates & Forecasts

-The non-life segment will deliver substantial growth in the Angola insurance market as rising incomes, economic expansion and the energy sector will all drive premiums upwards. The national passengervehicle fleet growth, coupled with mandatory health insurance will drive the motor vehicle segment, thelargest insurance line in the country.
-The life insurance segment is not promised for growth as the juvenile industry faces competition fromtraditional savings outlets, lack of product understanding and know-how, widespread poverty and anenvironment that is not yet conducive to the uptake of life insurance offerings. We do not estimate anysubstantial growth in the life segment over the course of our forecast period.
