A new report "Japan Electrical Industry Country Profile 2014" analyses the current utility market in Japan and concludes the following drivers are encouraging for the sector despite a fragile global economy:
- Some utilities likely to switch on nuclear reactors again, returning the companies to profit
- Japanese determination to maximise the Smart Communications opportunity

“Japanese electrical goods manufacturers have worked hard at export initiatives in recent years, as economic the impact of Fukushima hit home, taking utilities into the red as they faced escalating fuel costs. In the next few years we anticipate an opportunity to refocus on their home market” said StatPlan director David Dower, “we may be ahead of the game compared to other forecasters, but the key combination of smart communications and a return to nuclear generation offers interesting possibilities in the next five years”.
