BMI View: The UK tourism sector is expected to grow at a modest pace throughout our forecast period to2020. Investment will continue to improve the transport infrastructure as well as develop theaccommodation options outside of the major cities. The sector is mature and has a long history of attractinghigh visitor numbers from within Europe as well as further afield. Having seen low growth in 2015, theprospect for 2016 was looking more positive, but the uncertainty surrounding the result of the EUreferendum is likely to have an impact on all aspects of the sector.

Key Updates And Forecasts

- The uncertainty following the Brexit vote will have a substantial effect on the UK's tourism sector andundermines the outlook and prospects for the sector. We will update our forecasts in due course.

- Hilton has announced plans to develop a new 150-room property at Doncaster Racecourse, work couldbegin by the end of 2016.

- Inbound arrivals are set to achieve moderate growth of 2.3% in 2016, following a disappointing 2015.Total inbound arrivals will reach 33.5mn by the end of the year. Expansion of air travel to and fromLondon has received another blow with the announcement that a decision on when and where to expandLondon's airports has been delayed. The UK's busiest airports, Heathrow and Gatwick, are campaigningfor the construction of a new runway.
