The highly fragmented Clothing Boutiques industry is composed of small retail stores that offer only a limited range of apparel and accessories. Clothing boutiques typically cater to high-end or niche markets and are reliant on strong macroeconomic conditions. Although the economy expanded over the five years to 2016, heightened competition caused industry revenue to contract. More than ever, consumers have a plethora of outlets from which they can purchase clothing, siphoning demand from the industry and driving industry revenue to contract over the five years to 2016. Over the five years to 2021, industry revenue is expected to continue to contract as external completion continues to heat up. While some shoppers will continue to prefer the personalized experience that clothing boutiques provide, others will be drawn to department stores and e-tailers for convenience and cost savings.
