•Demand for effective and efficient network security solutions only continues to grow as data security breaches increase in frequency and impact, and as regulatory requirements continue to change.

•The commonly accepted definition of NGFW also includes the integration of Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) capabilities. However, network firewalls have historically been considered devices that enforce “entry-and-exit” policies.
•As a result, the integration of IPS for threat inspection raises questions about the future role of the single function network firewall.
•This consideration, along with other factors such as performance impact and cost, have an impact on the way that firewalls are sold, where in the network topology they are deployed, who they are sold to, and customer expectations.
•This new and expanded definition of a network firewall has introduced a level of uncertainty for firewall vendors and customers alike.
This is an important strategic market for security vendors and network infrastructure manufacturers. Customers prefer to purchase security and IT solutions from a single provider whenever possible.
Businesses are continually challenged to do more with less. Firewalls must be intuitive to deploy and manage in order for businesses to reap the most value from their firewall investment.
