The study provides market information on one of the largest petrochemical regions, which is important for understanding the global market from a strategic perspective. The study enlists key manufacturers and their production capacities for ammonia in the GCC along with a brief market overview and projected capacity expansions. Trade statistics for 2012 and price trends from 2008 to 2012 have been provided with a detailed analysis. The study includes a brief commentary on the major applications globally, key insights and future growth prospects for ammonia.

Key Findings

There are close to x major producers of ammonia in the Gulf Cooperation Council
(GCC). However, the production is largely captive in nature because most of them are
downwardly integrated into the production of urea and other fertilisers.

Average utilisation rates at the ammonia plants in the GCC were estimated to be close to x
% in 2012. However, the plants are expected to operate at overx% levels by 2017 as
indicated by the growing global demand for fertilisers and limited capacity additions in
the GCC from 2012 through 2017.

GCC is a major exporter of ammonia, exporting overx% of its annual production in
2012. The KSA was the largest exporter from the GCC while India was the largest importer.

Urea production is the largest end-use application of ammonia; it accounted for about x
% of global ammonia consumption in 2012. Overall, fertiliser production accounted for
close to x% of global ammonia consumption.
