Definitions

Centrifugal Pumps: This pump employs a rotating impeller to enhance the pressure of the fluid transferred. The fluid inlet is located along the rotating axis and forced out axially or radially after acceleration by the rotating impeller. The different types of centrifugal pumps covered in this study are defined as follows:
•Single-stage Pumps: A single-stage pump uses a single impeller to convert input power into kinetic energy in the liquid by developing a differential pressure between suction and discharge.
•Multi-stage Pumps: A multi-stage pump uses multiple impellers to convert input power into kinetic energy in the liquid by developing a differential pressure between suction and discharge.
•Axial- and mixed-flow Pumps: An axial-flow pump uses an axial impeller to pump high discharge at a relatively low head. A mixed-flow pump functions as both a radial and axial-flow pump as fluid exits the impeller between x and x degrees from the axial direction.
•Seal-less and Circulator Pumps: A seal-less pump does not require a mechanical seal or lubrication and is driven by canned motors or a magnetic coupling arrangement. A circulator pump is used to circulate liquids, gases, and slurries in a closed circuit.
Positive Displacement Pumps: A PD pump is a device that moves fluid from one point to another by the action of an expanding cavity on the suction side and a decreasing cavity on the discharge side. The different types of PD pumps covered in this study are defined as follows:
•Rotary Pumps: This PD pump uses a rotating mechanism to that draws and discharges fluid. The rotary pumps segment is composed of gear pumps, lobe pumps, progressive cavity pumps, and vane pumps.
•Reciprocating Pumps: A reciprocating pump uses a an oscillating movement of pistons, plungers or membranes to deliver fluids using high pressure. Reciprocating pumps include piston and plunger pumps and diaphragm pumps.
•Peristaltic Pumps: A flexible tube fitted inside a pump casing contains the fluid. As the pump’s rotor turns, part of its tube is compressed, forcing the fluid to be pumped out of the tube.

•Meat Processing: This segment deals with slaughtering and the preparation of processed meats and meat byproducts, including poultry and seafood.
•Processed Food: This segment includes all forms of packaged food products that are stored and sold in large quantities, such as baby food, pet food, soups, jams, sauces, and other forms of convenience food.
•Bakery and Confectionery: This vertical market includes all forms of products that are filled with sweeteners and referred to as confections, such as sweets, candy, and chocolates. It also includes baked goods, such as bread, cakes, and cookies.
•Dairy: This segment deals with applications that involve the transfer and processing of commodities such as milk, yogurt, butter, cheese, and ice cream.
•Beverages: This includes all alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, such as soft drinks, energy drinks, coffee, tea, and fresh juices.
•Others: This includes applications such as fruit and vegetable processing, snacks, oils and fats, and specialty foods.
