Baby Food Sweden examines the trends in the baby food market for 2006-2012, with forecasts to 2018. It examines how live birth rates, breastfeeding trends, the economic crisis, new product and packaging developments, changing attitudes and safety concerns have affected the market for baby milks, cereals, meals, drinks and finger foods.
Total consumption of baby food in 2012 is estimated at 17,344 tonnes and an annual intake of 153kg per baby, one of the highest levels in Europe. All sectors have shown some volume growth over the past six years, although milks have experienced the highest increase. Innovation has been highest in the meals sector, where plastic pots and squeezy pouches have been introduced alongside the traditional jars. A general trend towards organic food in Sweden has boosted sales of organic baby food, and helped to fuel value growth.
