Key Findings

The market has been growing rapidly over the last few years, as family incomes have increased as a result of the expanding economy. Sales are spreading increasingly from the two largest cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, to other cities, although consumption in rural areas remains very low. Milks constitute the bulk of the market, accounting for 83.3% of sales value in 2012. All sectors have grown significantly since 2006, with the highest volume growth registered in the still small meals and others sector, but consumption levels remain low by Asian standards. Overall, the market presents huge growth potential. Although the birth rate is likely to fall between 2013 and 2018, the number of live births is expected to remain relatively stable, while the economy is predicted to show healthy growth, leading to higher disposable incomes. Against this favourable background, between 2012 and 2018 value sales are expected to grow by 84% and volume sales by 15%.
