Established in 1939, the Thailand Tobacco Monopoly (TTM) has its headquarters in Bangkok and is a state-owned enterprise, controlled by the Ministry of Finance. It is the sole domestic cigarette producer in Thailand and also controls distribution of cigarettes and other tobacco products in the country. Since 1990, there has been an influx of imported brands. Although TTM initially lost share to imports, in recent years it has more or less maintained volumes and share, despite increased competition and regulation, and retains over 78% of market volume.
