Increasing Focus on Corrosion and Leakage Problems to Drive the Opportunity Curve

This Frost & Sullivan research provides an overview of the impact of shale gas on chemical infrastructure in North America. The study provides an industry overview, market background, and market drivers and restraints. The research also focuses on providing insight into the possible opportunities for coatings and plastics. Market potential, competitive structure, competitive factors, and key companies are also covered.

Shale Gas Overview

-The emergence of unconventional gas such as shale, coal-bed methane, and tight sands in North America revolutionized the natural gas supply landscape.
-Most of the developments within the natural gas industry are happening in the context of shale gas, even though there are investments in other types of unconventional natural gas such as coal-bed methane and tight gas.
-The shale gas industry since has evolved immensely during the last decade with improvements across drilling, production techniques, and more importantly, infrastructure to deliver to its customers a cost-effective source of energy.
-According to the EIA, in 2014, shale gas will represent around % of the natural gas produced, and it is estimated that by 2030, the percentage share will increase to almost two-thirds of the total natural gas produced in North America.
-This can be attributed to the fact that, by 2030, close to % of the total electricity generated will come from gas.
-The production of shale gas itself is expected to increase from 11tcf in 2012 to 30tcf in the next years with % of the growth expected to come from Marcellus Shale. Developments in Western Canada are also expected to contribute to this growth.
-Shale gas in other regions such as Europe and Asia-Pacific has yet to find ground for development due to environmental and structural impediments.
