Increasing Adoption of Cloud Services Key Driver for Market Growth
The Asia-Pacific (APAC) application delivery controller (ADC) market posted an 8.8% growth on a YoY basis in 2013. The slowdown in the market could be attributed to the weaker business climate in the region, which affected enterprise propensity to spend on IT, as well as resulted in enterprises opting to prioritize investments in other technology segments ahead of ADC, such as information and cyber security technologies.
-The Asia-Pacific (APAC) application delivery controller (ADC) market posted a % growth on a year over year (YoY) basis in 2013. The slowdown in the segment could be attributed to the weaker business climate in the region, which affected enterprise propensity to spend on information technology (IT), as well as enterprises opting to prioritize investments in other technology segments ahead of ADC, such as information and cybersecurity technologies.
-APAC enterprises were observed to possess a mature understanding of ADC technology, with many recognizing its ability to deliver, accelerate, and secure applications. Moreover, with more enterprises looking to leverage on the Web to facilitate engagements with customers, the role of ADC in ensuring a positive Web user experience for customers is expected to become more important. Additionally, enterprises are already using Web applications to drive internal business processes.
-The growing adoption of cloud services was a key driver for the APAC ADC market, as service providers sought to enhance delivery standards to their enterprise customers by investing in ADC solutions. Many were also hoping for the investment to become a competitive differentiator against other service providers in the market. Besides using the ADC to drive cloud services, service providers were also looking to offer managed ADC services to enterprise customers, especially for enterprises that were interested in hosting content on their own.
-Looking ahead, the ADC technology segment is expected to face rising competition from newer technologies such as software defined networking (SDN). In particular, enterprises are also waiting to see if the rise of SDN will affect the long-term relevance and value proposition offered by ADC technology. With SDN expected to change the way enterprises view their network infrastructure, the onus has now fallen upon the ADC vendors to introduce more innovative features into their solution platforms and ensure that they remain relevant and provide greater value moving forward.
