1 Disconnect all-wheel drive (AWD) systems are only considered by a few original equipment manufacturers (OEM) worldwide. The cost of the disconnect system is a major factor holding most OEMs back. OEMs are currently focused on drag torque reduction and cost reduction.
2 Electronic limited slip differential (eLSD) and torque vectoring (TV) systems will likely be confined only on the performance and luxury car segment because of cost constraints. The benefits of these technologies are visible only for the higher end driver.
3 eLSD is currently seeing more demand from the performance hatchback segment since its introduction in the Volkswagen (VW) Golf. Certain OEMs are also looking to replace AWD vehicles with the eLSD system.
4 True torque vectoring (TTV) is only considered by a few OEMs because of cost constraints, and it has only a marginal increase in performance when compared to the eLSD.
5 OEMs are moving to single-stage power transfer units (PTU) because of cost and efficiency benefits. Packaging constraints are also a major concern in the left-hand shift (LHS) PTUs.
