Pulses saw total volume sales growth of 4% in 2014 to reach 271,900 tonnes. Despite the import embargo imposed in August 2014, no significant increase was seen in the price of pulses. In fact, the price increases seen by other categories more impacted by the embargo had a positive impact on demand for pulses. Peas remained the largest category in pulses by far in 2014, accounting for a total volume sales share of 79%, while beans and other pulses accounted for respective shares of 14% and 7%.
