- Southern and Western Europe: Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, the UK.

In total, the research identifies over 1,000 consumer finance schemes and over 400 product initiatives in retailer banking, thereby providing a definitive analysis of retailer consumer finance and banking worldwide that goes far beyond the scope of previous published research.

Moreover, the PartnerBASE™ dataset that accompanies the report details each of the many retailer consumer finance and banking programs traced by Finaccord, specifying the operating models used by retailers and the identities and ultimate holding companies of the ultimate product providers in each case.

Key findings from the executive summary include:

- of the consumer finance programs found, just over three quarters of them rely entirely upon one or more external partners, with 64.5% based around a single external partner and 11.0% around more than one external partner, while 8.4% employ a captive provider and a further 13.2% of retailers active in this sphere reportedly manage and fund their finance schemes themselves without support from a separate partner, either external or captive;

- retail brands in the DIY, furniture and home product category are the most likely to offer consumer finance with a provision rate of 41.6%, followed by those in the field of consumer electronics (37.4%) and then by department stores and variety retailers (25.7%);

- by region, South Africa hosts the major retail brands most likely to offer a general banking product, with a provision rate of 9.2%, followed by Latin America at 6.0% and Northern and Central Europe at 3.2%;

- 110 major retail brands (or 1.7% of those surveyed) offer international transfer or remittance services with Western Union used as a direct provider in 60 cases and as a joint venture partner in the case of Seven & I's Seven Bank International Money Transfer service.
