A substantial number of smart grid developments took place in March 2014, including product launches, fundraising events and the announcement and completion of contracts and projects. Four major acquisitions took place in March. One was Rolls-Royce Holdings, which offers integrated power systems and services, acquiring the surplus 50% interest in Rolls-Royce Power Systems, which manufactures and distributes engines, propulsion systems and distributed energy systems, from Daimler, a German automotive corporation. Another acquisition was that of Électricité de France (EDF), an electric utility company in France, giving its consent for the acquisition of joint venture interest in Dalkia France, which offers energy management and maintenance services, from Veolia Environnement, an environment services company, under a swap transaction. A total of 10 contracts were completed between March and April 2014. Some of the key players that won contracts were ABB, Tantalus Systems Corp., SolarEdge Technologies, Belgorodenergo, Kalibrate Technologies, Itron, BYD Company, Dominion, and EnerNOC. A total of 10 fundraising events took place in March, at which Hydrogenics Corporation, Energous Corporation, Opower, CBD Energy, Rosseti, Contact Energy, Tianneng Battery Group Co. and MicroPlanet Technology Corp. raised funds through private public offerings. EnVerv and Maxplore Technologies raised funds through venture financing. Other announcements were made in March regarding appointments, management changes and investment. A total of nine projects were reported in March.
