BMI View: Tourism is a key growth area for the Qatari government and the country is seeing extensiveinvestment in transport and accommodation infrastructure, both as a run up to hosting the 2022 Fifa WorldCup and as part of the wider tourism growth strategy. We expect to see continued growth in internationalarrivals over the course of our current forecast period through to 2020, though Qatar's tourism market willcontinue to lag behind that of other destinations in the region, including the leading United Arab Emirates. There are some considerable headwinds to growth, including regional security concerns and, on forinvestors, allegations of corruption.Key Updates And Forecasts

- The Qatari government is highly supportive of the tourism industry and has undertaken a number ofinitiatives to stimulate growth in the sector. In January 2016 the Qatar Tourism Authority launchedQBIC Tourism - a programme focused on supporting tourism start-ups by providing research anddevelopment tools, including a ten week entrepreneurial program, LeanStartup.

- Qatar continues to develop air travel connections. Qatar Airways has announced it will increase dailyflights between Muscat and Doha from 1 August 2016, following the addition of H1 2016 of flights toLos Angeles, Boston, Atlanta, Ras al Khaimah, Sydney, Adelaide and Birmingham. Further new flightroutes are planned, including to Pisa, Windhoek, Helsinki, Krabi, Chiang Mai and the Seychelles.

- Overall, we expect international tourism arrivals to increase from 3.2mn in 2016 to just under 4mn in2020. There is some potential upside risk to these forecasts, as Qatar is hosting several major sportingevents (the FIFA World Cup in 2022 and 2023 World Aquatics Championships) which will raise theprofile of Qatar as a holiday destination over the coming years and see widespread investment insupporting infrastructure.
