According to the Venezuelan Federation of Alcoholic Drinks, with the implementation of the reform of the Law of Tax of Alcoholic Drinks, a decree published in the Official Gazette No. 6151 of November 2014, in which higher taxes for wines and other alcoholic drinks are defined, manufacturers and importers of alcoholic drinks had to inevitably raise retail prices to cover the increase in the sales tax, which in the case of spirits was increased from 20% to 50%.
